Messin’ About in Boats – Not just Dreamin’ About ‘em

If waves lapping a shoreline have ever called out to you, you need a boat.  If not a boat, you need someone with a boat.  When it comes to messing about in boats, no local organization does it better!  Should your idea of a boat be an 8-foot pram, a 37=foot sloop, a decrepit rowboat, or a pile of wood that you “just know” you can turn into a boat, you will find a kindred soul amongst our membership.  Joining a boat club won’t make the dreams go away; it’ll make them possible.  Don’t fight the pull of the water.  Let yourself go.  Come see us.  We can help!

Your Local Boat Club

We are one of the major, if not the only, voice promoting recreational boating in Del Norte County.  The Point Saint George Yacht Club was launched in 1987 as the Del Norte Yacht and Rowing Club.  In 2001 we changed the name to more accurately represent our membership in both Del Norte and Curry Counties.  We are a grass-roots club, enjoying what our local waters have to offer.  You will find ocean-going boats heading to sea and smaller boats on the bay, and local lakes, lagoons and rivers.  It the water is deep enough to float something, we will try to go boating on it.  We are also the proud sponsors of Explorer Post 110, whose quest for personal excellence brings them to the water as part of their search.

No Experience or Boat Required!

Recreational boating activities, aside from sport fishing, are new to our community.  Some of our most avid sailors had only dreamed of sailing  before joining out group.  Over time, most members have ended up buying their own boats, making the crew person a rare and welcomed addition.  Many times boats have had to be left at the docks because of lack of crew.  When we make “long distance” journeys, like our annual summer run between Crescent City and Brookings, we insist on fully crewed boats because we believe in Safety First, Last, and Always.  Best of all, learning to sail does not have to be expensive.  It can be a safe, entertaining, low-cost experience for the whole family.

Year-round Action!

We have races for the racers, cruises for the adventurous, day-sails for the fun of it.  In fact we have outings for almost everyone.  We have camp-outs at Klamath, Lake Selmac and Stone Lagoon.  There are parties for the hardy, and potluck socials year-round.

An Invitation…

You are invited to get involved with our organization.  Our clubhouse is next to the Harbor District Office, 101 Citizens Dock Road, Crescent City; we meet the first Thursday of each month at 1900hours (7P.M. for landlubbers).  You may also write us at P.O. Box 1601, Crescent City, CA.
